Wife, mama to four girls, first generation homeschooler, doula, and the hands behind Mothering the Home.
Around here, you'll find the encouragement and practical systems you need to run your home in a peaceful, joyful, productive way.
The postpartum mom who feels overwhelmed and isn't sure how to run a home with a newborn, will find rest, healing, and gentle rhythms for their home as well.
My purpose here is to fulfill you with the courage and wisdom to run your home well, while loving on your kids and husband.
I've been married - and a homemaker - for almost twelve years now and have learned quite a few ways on how to bring joy, peace, and faith in God into my home. Through four pregnancies and postpartum seasons, through homeschooling with littles around, through a year of watching my daughter fight cancer, and through postpartum anxiety - seasons that really challenged me and brought me to my knees in full surrender to Christ and made me realize the beauty of a home well lived. The beauty in Mothering the Home well.
In my home you won't find perfection. You won't find perfectly obedient children, a marriage that has no issues, a perfectly cleaned home at all times, and school work done at light speed and with no tears or complaining.
Homemaking is not about perfection: it's about ministry.
It's the daily act of cultivating a place where learning, growing, and faith can take root and grow deep. And you, dear mama, can create that in your home.
But it doesn't simply happen.
Homemaking takes skill. It takes effort. It takes learning and growing. And it takes a whole lot of Jesus!
Because I believe that the work we do is holy work, I believe that the counters we wipe a million tines a day, the food we prepare, the table we set, the hands we wipe, the math lessons we teach - I believe all of that is beautiful and holy to God.
I hope this blog will inspire you to do your job as a mother and homemaker well. To do it with joy and excitement and love and peace. I'm still learning and growing - so come along and join me as I learn to Mother the Home well.
Want to know me a bit better?
Here are five things you might want to know.
1. I grew up in a mennonite home and left when I was fifteen years old because I heard the gospel and put my trust in Jesus. I walked out of that particular legalism and walked into freedom.
2. I got married at eighteen and had my first baby just shy of my first year anniversary.
3. Growing up, I was always scared of birth and also thought homeschooling was ridiculous - and now I'm a birth doula and also homeschool my kids.
4. I love food. All of it. I love trying new recipes and creating random meals. Food is basically my love language.
5. I'm health nut and I do not apologize for it. I enjoy learning about health through podcasts, books, people, and I never get tired of it, nor discouraged about how hard it can be to stay healthy. I love being able to take up the challenge of seeing how healthy I can make my home - in a beautiful, restful way. Not in a stressful way. I am not for stress!
